happy canada d-eh!

today is canada day… it is Canada‘s national day, a federal statutory holiday, celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867 enactment of the British North America Act of 1867, which united Canada as a single country of four provinces. Canada Day observances take place throughout Canada as well as internationally.

daw equivalent sang independence day sa aton on june 12.  its that time of the year where every canucks celebrate and show how proud they are to be canadian.  (btw, i think they hate it when people call them americans, simply because they’re NOT).

may parade, fireworks, kag iban pa… the maple leaf flag being hanged in front of almost every canadian homes, and you can see it everywhere.  sa chair, sa payong, sa burador, sa t-shirt.  gani daw indi ko ka intiende ngaa gin-akigan si pokwang nga nagsuksok sang philippine flag nga gloves during the philippine independence day celebration sa wowowee. Just to be clear I don’t want that stupid show, nabasahan ko lang sa putos sang ibos. siling nila gina bastos kuno kung isuksok ang flag pero ngaa ang flag sang japan, uk, usa, canada, brazil, italy etc. makita mo sa t-shirts?

we can view it the other way, right? basta wala lang ginalapak lapak o sunog ang bandila, wearing the flag is like expressing  how proud you are to be pinoy. pero daw indi amo na mag-isip ang iban nga mga pinoy eh.

DSC03395

and the rest was history… ang ending, ginhagad nya kami maglagaw after sang service, kay may ongoing nga festival of cultures sa banwa, so go kami eh… may mga booths ang different countries showcasing their cultures, foods, etc. at different sites all over mississauga.  nag lantaw kami hula dancers sa hawaii, belly dancing kag kaon shewarma sa egypt, kag saut tinikling sa philippine booth.

we went home at 1am in the morning.  i told senyorito that i dont have anywhere to go during my week off, yet i had been to different countries in just one night.  oh well…

lakathon under canadian’s sun

canucks expressions

there are three expressions that stick to my mind whenever i talk to canadians from ontario:

1. ‘honest to God’

i dont know if its really a common expression, i used to always hear grammie saying that… like one time, i overheard her talking to somebody:

honest to God, kwan is really a born caring person…

then bossing also used that expression whenever he talks about something.

2. ‘you know what’

this one’s very common to younger generations… i think even Americans use this one… i hear it from the judges of American Idol.  i always have this smile whenever people say this phrase to me, for example:

you know what, just leave it there

duh, as if i dont know… can you read the word ‘stupid’ on my forehead…

but you know what i am using it now… without even realizing that i do… lol

3. ‘eh’

this is the canada’s signature expression… you know you are talking to a canadian if  they end their statement or question with ‘eh’…

its a fine weather today eh?

i’ll try to use the three expressions:

honest to God, you know what… i think i am learning how to use them… ala eh!

i’m going to be a flop

siling sang brother ni bossing, isahan pa ka bulan kag maging FLOP na ko kuno.  wtf is FLOP?

FLOP = FLIP + WOP

FLIP = f*cking little people o funny looking little people… slang nga tawag sa mga pinoy

WOP = with out papers… slang nga tawag sa mga italian… kay sang una kuno, italians came in boats and arrived at north america ‘without papers’

so why should i be a flop?

  • udto pa lang, daw mahubog na ko… hehe… gainom na sila wine sa panyaga…  speaking of pagkaon…
  • during meal time, feeling ko daw gakaon lang ko sa pizza hut o shakey’s… different types of pasta, pizza, sausages, etc. tapos kis-a ga espresso pa sila…
  • i often hear italian terms of endearment like bella, bello, mi amore…
  • i am learning italian words like gatto (cat, kay may hinuptanan sila nga kuring) , bocca (mouth, kay kung magkaon ang mga tsikiting friends ko), mangiare (eat)…
  • i am with italian people who like celebrities with italian blood like jon bon jovi and sylvester stallone…

so, sono ora girare in italiano?
